Abstract A photograph album compiled by a flight attendant working for Pacific Southwest Airlines (PSA) in the 1970s. The photographs are uncaptioned but some feature the year and month in the negative: October through December of 1973. The woman, who is unnamed, is repeatedly shown alongside a consistent group of fellow attendants, each clad in period uniforms comprising short, bright pink and orange miniskirts, sometimes accompanied by pink hotpants and paired with red go-go boots. Edward Paik was a Korean American food service equipment sales supervisor, Kitchen Specialist, and U.S. Air Force Surplus Property Disposal Specialist. This collection comprises primarily photographs and printed materials created and collected by Edward Paik. It also contains ephemera in the form of service medals, a wool cap, and Army patches, as well as personal papers in the form of correspondence, letters, and yearbooks.

Abstract

Photograph album of earthquake damage in Santa Barbara after earthquake of June 29, 1925. The album opens with photographs of steel frame buildings in Tokyo after a 1923 earthquake and ends with photographs of the collapse of the Hotel Vincent in Benton Harbor, Michigan. The sequence of photographs illustrates "A Warning" given in the first photograph, a poem that extols the virtues of steel frame buildings in preventing earthquake damage.

This collection chiefly consists of the professional papers of Japanese-American sociologist and professor Tamotsu Shibutani (1920-2004). The bulk of the collection relates to Shibutani’s academic career at the University of California, Santa Barbara, in the form of research and writing materials, course files, and professional correspondence. In addition, there are photograph albums of his mother, Taka Shibutani (1892-1986), dating from the early 1900s to 1980s.
